Modas Dance is new kind of summer intensive designed to promote diversity in young artists and encourage them to explore and discover their modus operandi, or method of operating. Modas brings master teachers from across the country specializing in ballet, contemporary and commercial dance, offering a variety of mediums and resources for young artists to explore and take advantage of while nourishing and cultivating each students unique talents.

In 2010 Layla Amis and Duncan Cooper joined forces to co-create and direct a summer program in Santa Fe, New Mexico. 2012 marked the first year of the newly evolved and reformatted vision of what is now known as Modas Dance Summer Intensive. The new name of the revamped summer program (Modas) comes from the word Modus Operandi; A manner of acting or doing; method, way. And so we ask, what is your Mode of Operation as a young aspiring dance artist?

We invite you to bring your unique talent to the table and challenge you to explore your full potential, expand upon what you know, what you thought you knew and what’s out here for you to discover amongst the many different approaches and methods that make-up our program.

Over the lifetime of a successful career, most dancers will find themselves working in one, if not all, of the three big dance markets:

Concert Dance (Ballet, Contemporary & Modern companies)
Show (Broadway & Vegas)
Commercial (Hollywood)
In the ever-evolving dance world it’s not enough to be great at one or even two disciplines of dance. This current generation has to be well versed and skilled in a multitude of dance techniques and approaches.

Longevity and survival in the dance world as a professional often comes down to how versatile and adaptable a dancer is able to be.
We at Modas Dance are keenly aware of this ever-evolving dance world and have embarked on a journey to create a different kind of dance intensive experience. Modas Dance offers an intensive that is diverse in techniques, approaches and student body.

We cultivate and encourage independent thinking, problem solving, compassion for others and tenacity.
We believe these are important life skills that can be applied to any path one may choose to pursue.
